Given the size of our organization, it may surprise many that JLL has such a commitment to local community involvement and philanthropic causes. Employees are encouraged to “give back” and the company generously supports their employees with the time, money and resources needed to help.
Of the many causes we support in Indianapolis, I am most proud of our partnership with Junior Achievement of Central Indiana. Admittedly, this is a bit selfish on my part as I have personally been involved with JA for over 20 years, starting in high school participating as a student. Today I serve on the board of directors for JACI and I am extremely passionate about the cause.
For those who don’t know, Junior Achievement is dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. JA programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action, and help strengthen their communities. In central Indiana, we provide in school education program to grades K-12 as well as our experiential capstone programs such as JA BizTown ® and Finance Park® Virtual, which enforces the idea that kids learn by “doing”.
JLL and my Indianapolis colleagues have shown enthusiastic support for JA including:
- hands-on involvement such as classroom consulting and “JA in a Day” to
- leadership such as committee participation to
- Event sponsorship and recognitions like Hall of Fame and Best and Brightest to
- fundraising efforts such as the JA Bowl-A-Thon held last week, which raised more than $25,000!
JLL was recognized at the Bowl-A-Thon for the fundraising efforts and I couldn’t have been prouder.
We will undoubtedly continue to grow our partnership with JA for years to come. Please let us know if you or your company would consider playing an active role with us in supporting such a worthy (and fun!) cause.
