Speculative industrial development is taking off in a big way — no place more so than Indianapolis.
According to a recent Jones Lang LaSalle study that was published in the Indianapolis Business Journal, Indy is No. 1 in the Midwest in terms of square feet of total warehouse/distribution space under development.
More than 2.5 million square feet of spec industrial space is being built here, compared with 1.73 million SF in Chicago, 900,000 SF in Cincinnati and 350,000 SF in Minneapolis. No development is currently under way in St. Louis, Columbus or Louisville.
